Scientific Review Branch (SRB)

Murali Ganesan, Ph.D. is a Scientific Review Officer (SRO) in the Division of Extramural Research and Training at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), where he conducts the initial administrative, scientific, and technical review of various types of research grant applications submitted to the NIEHS. He organizes review committees or special emphasis panels for scientific peer review meetings, and he is also responsible for preparing summary statements of review committee evaluations and recommendations.

Ganesan received his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Madras, India, where his dissertation focused on the role of glutathione monoester on age-associated alterations in rat brains. Ganesan completed his postdoctoral studies at the University of California, Los Angeles and University of Southern California. Before coming to NIEHS, he was an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha. During this time, his work focused on the role of alcohol on innate and adaptive immunity in HBV/HIV/HCV infection pathogenesis. His research expertise expands over virology, immunology, chronic liver diseases and neurobiology with specific emphasis on viral infections, alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver injury, obesity, and aging.
