April L. Bennett is the Legislative Liaison for NIEHS. Ms. Bennett has been with NIEHS since 2011, previously serving as the Program Manager and contractor for the NIEHS Office of the Director-Bethesda (ODB). In the ODB as Program Manager, she managed and oversaw the daily activities of the NIH Disaster Research Response program, acted as a liaison for ODB to assigned committees and working groups, and served as the back-up for congressional affairs.

Prior to coming to NIEHS, she worked as a Congressional Aide in the U.S. House of Representatives for Congressman Mark Schauer from Michigan, handling his Natural Resources and Environment, Science and Technology, Energy, Native American, and Telecommunications portfolios. She also managed his congressional response and outreach for the 2010 Kalamazoo, MI Oil Spill crisis. From 2006 to 2009, Ms. Bennett worked for a Michigan conservation non-profit, Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC), where she served as the Resource Policy Assistant and Director of Club Relations. In these roles, Ms. Bennett represented MUCC to Congress, the Michigan State Legislature and local governments on Great Lakes protection and restoration, water quality and quantity, conservation and recreation policy issues, and science priorities. She also oversaw the grassroots member initiatives and events at MUCC with its 30,000+ members.

Ms. Bennett received her B.S. in Environmental Economics and Policy from Michigan State University, and her M.S in Administration with a concentration in Public Administration from Central Michigan University.
