Much of the work carried out by DTT is in support of the National Toxicology Program (NTP), an interagency partnership of the Food and Drug Administration, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and NIEHS.

Pathology Support Group

The Immunohistochemistry Support Team performs immunohistochemical stains on tissues and cells for NIEHS Division of Intramural Research and Division of Translational Toxicology researchers.

Capabilities

Highly trained staff members provide the following key functions:

  • Develop staining protocols for tissue preserved in a variety of fixatives.
    • 10% neutral buffered formalin, 4% paraformaldehyde, ethanol, methanol.
  • Enzyme based visualization using brown, red, blue, and purple chromogenic substrates.
  • Offer antibody selection assistance.
  • Perform co-localization experiments using chromogen or fluorescent detection.
  • Perform cryopreservation and sectioning of frozen tissue samples.
  • Perform immunohistochemical stains on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue or OCT embedded frozen tissue sections and cytology samples.
  • Perform Immunofluorescence on paraffin-embedded or frozen tissue sections.
  • Perform single or dual localization.
  • Provide information on tissue handling and preparation that promote optimal staining results.
  • Provide pathology reports.
  • Provide routine antibodies for IHC staining.
  • Work closely with NIEHS researchers to develop and optimize staining procedures for novel and commercially available antibodies.
