Much of the work carried out by DTT is in support of the National Toxicology Program (NTP), an interagency partnership of the Food and Drug Administration, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and NIEHS.
Global Toxicologic Pathology Training Program Training Modules
Practice based training modules address concepts and practices essential for the conduct of toxicologic pathology.
- Artifacts in Histopathology (10MB) – This study module features a downloadable PDF that provides an overview on common artifacts associated with necropsy and tissue processing, including how and why the artifacts occur and how to differentiate them from true lesions.
- Basic Cellular and Tissue Microscopic Responses to Toxicity (8MB) – This study module features a downloadable PDF that provides an introductory overview for pathology trainees, toxicologists, and allied scientists to understand the basic processes underlying the most common microscopic changes observed in cells and tissues in toxicity studies.
- Juvenile Toxicologic Pathology (15MB) – This study module features a downloadable PDF that provides an overview of the development of rodent and other animal model organ systems, safety assessment studies with juvenile animals, and specific factors to consider in juvenile toxicologic pathology studies.
- Pathology Data Interpretation of Carcinogenicity Studies (2MB) – This study module features a downloadable pdf describing how pathology data are interpreted for DTT carcinogenicity studies.
- Peer Review in Toxicologic Pathology (2MB) – This study module features a downloadable PDF that provides rationale and methods for pathology peer review, includes best practices for how to conduct peer review, and explains how digital pathology is used in pathology peer review. This module also provides an overview of the pathology peer review process in the Division of Translational Toxicology at the NIEHS.
Laboratory Animal Science in Toxicologic Pathology
- Animal Research: Reporting of In Vivo Experiments (ARRIVE) Guidelines (2MB) – This study module features a downloadable PDF that provides an overview of the ARRIVE Guidelines, which are used when writing a publication. These guidelines ensure animal research studies promote ethical use of animals and are described clearly, transparently, and completely so they can be properly evaluated and reproduced.
- Planning Research and Experimental Procedures on Animals: Recommendations for Excellence (PREPARE) Guidelines (1MB) – This study module features a downloadable PDF that provides an overview of the PREPARE Guidelines, which are useful when planning and designing experiments to improve study quality and success; promote animal welfare; and increase scientific rigor, validity, and reproducibility of research.
