Grant: R24ES028532

Description:
The Health Effects of Arsenic Longitudinal Study (HEALS) is a large cohort of more than 35,000 men and women in Bangladesh who have been exposed to inorganic arsenic from drinking water. Researchers established this cohort in 2000 and have since been prospectively following the cohort. For more information about this cohort, visit the NIEHS Epidemiology Resources webpage for HEALS.

Cohort Maintenance & Enrichment Activities:
Maintaining the cohort infrastructure with longer follow-up and evaluating new health outcomes. Adding a comprehensive assessment using novel real-time air pollution and climate monitoring, including information on household air pollution in addition to other relevant exposures and covariates. Enriching the biorepository by collecting saliva among a subset for investigating the oral microbiome in the future. Including additional technology and clinical support to augment clinical endpoint assessment.

Data Management & Sharing Activities:
Providing a more comprehensive research platform to enable opportunities for environmental health research by multidisciplinary researchers.

Data Access:
HEALS data can be accessed upon request. Data access inquiries can be sent to Hannah Snyder.
