Amelia “Mia” Pearson is an Industrial Hygienist in the Worker Training program (WTP) of the Division of Extramural Research and Training (DERT) at the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). The NIEHS Worker Training program in an innovative program that supports development and delivery of safety and health training programs for workers involved in hazardous waste cleanup and emergency response throughout the nation. Training is delivered by universities, unions, community colleges, and non-profit organizations who are funded through cooperative agreements with the NIEHS Worker Training Program.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Pearson served as an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist for the Health and Safety Branch (HSB, NIEHS) from 2019-2024 and an Industrial Hygienist with the North Carolina Department of Labor, OSHA Division from 2007-2019. She also worked for the United States Navy as an Industrial hygiene technician and later as an Industrial hygienist from 2005-2007 at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, VA.
Ms. Pearson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from UNCP and a Masters Degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma, Norman.
