Exposure, Response, and Technology Branch (ERTB)

Sadichha Sitaula, Ph.D., joined as a Program Officer in the Exposure, Response and Technology Branch (ERTB) in 2024. In this role, she manages a portfolio of grants and oversees the programmatic development of research focused on environmental cardiovascular, pulmonary and inflammation resolution biology.

Sitaula earned her Ph.D. in biological sciences from The Scripps Research Institute, where her graduate research focused on understanding the role of nuclear receptors in atherosclerosis and developing small molecule compounds to modulate lipid homeostasis and inflammasome activation. Her scientific areas of expertise include cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, inflammation, cancer, and small molecule drug discovery.

Prior to joining NIEHS, Sitaula spent several years in the pharmaceutical sector working on preclinical and clinical phase drug discovery programs. At AstraZeneca, her work centered on gaining a mechanistic understanding of GLP-1 receptor agonist-induced metabolic changes. At the biotech startup Asteroid Therapeutics, she led small molecule drug discovery efforts to target metabolic reprogramming pathways in cancer. She has co-authored several patents.
