The mission of NIEHS is to research how the environment affects biological systems across the lifespan and to translate this knowledge to reduce disease and promote human health. In order to carry out this mission, the institute needs many talented people with a variety of skills.
Scientific Jobs
Training Fellowships (Postdoctoral, Postbaccalaureate, or Predoctoral)
Division of Intramural Research (DIR)
Research Triangle Park, NC
A Postbaccalaureate Fellow position is available in the Neurobehavioral Circuits Group at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in Research Triangle Park, NC. The postbaccalaureate trainee will work on a project studying how environmental stressors during early life modify the circuitry for social behaviors in mice. They will receive direct mentorship from a senior team member and training on a range of techniques including immunohistochemistry, behavioral assays, circuit tracing and in vivo fiber photometry. The position will also entail the organization and maintenance of the lab’s operations (e.g. placing orders, maintaining equipment stock). The candidate needs to have strong organizational and communication skills as well as be intrinsically self-motivated to support rigorous and cutting-edge science.
Division of Translational Toxicology (DTT)
Research Triangle Park, NC
A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Mechanistic Toxicology Branch in the Division of Translational Toxicology (DTT) at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. This is a project focused, laboratory-based position, centered on characterizing the endocrine-disrupting chemical exposome and bioactivity in serum from North Carolina women using molecular biology, metabolomics/exposomics, and in vitro approaches to better understand the impact of chemical mixture exposures on human health.
Division of Intramural Research (DIR)
Research Triangle Park, NC
Fully funded postdoctoral position available in Dr. Julieta Lischinsky’s lab at the NIEHS/NIH in North Carolina. We are looking for motivated candidates who are interested in pursuing questions geared towards the understanding of the molecular and circuit underpinnings of social behaviors. How is social sensory information encoded and innate social behaviors established across postnatal development and adulthood? We use in vivo tools including single and multi-fiber photometry, optogenetics, pharmacogenetics, viral tracing, and behavioral paradigms towards answering these questions. Postdoctoral fellows will benefit from mentoring and team-based science as well as opportunities to share their work within the Institute and at conferences. Additionally, fellows can take advantage of the vibrant research community and resources offered by the NIEHS/NIH, including career development opportunities, and the behavioral, viral, sequencing and microscopy core facilities
Division of Extramural Research and Training (DERT)
Research Triangle Park, NC
A post-doctoral research fellowship position is available in Community Engagement and Implementation Science. This position offers a unique opportunity to advance community-engaged science across the research-to-practice continuum, and to conduct cutting edge environmental health research that enhances the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based solutions directly benefiting community health. The Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina provides excellent networking and career development opportunities.
