Mass Spectrometry Research and Support Group

Services

The NIEHS Mass Spectrometry Research and Support Group aids intramural researchers by offering a wide variety of mass spectrometry analyses. The laboratory utilizes high performance instrumentation and is expert in a large number of mass spectrometry approaches, including qualitative and quantitative analyses. In addition to acquisition of mass spectrometry data, the group uses MS informatics tools to mine, filter, and assemble mass spectrometry data. Depending upon the project and level of investigator need, the Mass Spectrometry Research and Support Group can provide mass spectrometry results and expertise for projects as simple as a single-sample analysis or as involved as a multi-year research collaboration.

Background

Types of projects we do:

  • Liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS)
  • Matrix-assisted laser desorption mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS)
  • Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS)
  • Proteomic and metabolomic analyses
  • Small molecule and protein quantitation
  • Protein identification and characterization (post-translational modifications, cleavage sites, amino acid substitutions, etc.)
  • Molecular weight determination
  • Other mass spectrometric techniques

NIEHS Shared and Core Facilities are available to NIH researchers. Information for staff on utilizing these services may be found on the NIEHS Junction or by contacting the staff below.
