Protocol Development

A team of experienced DTT scientists and contractors was organized to evaluate the scientific evidence on the association between glyphosate and glyphosate-based herbicide exposures and cancer. The team developed draft protocols as methods guides for conducting systematic reviews of the human and non-human animal evidence separately, and had the methods reviewed by subject matter experts. The protocols were then finalized after consideration of reviewer feedback.

The protocols were originally intended for internal cancer hazard assessments to reach level-of-evidence conclusions of carcinogenicity from animal and human cancer studies. Currently, the team is refocusing the assessment for journal publications that assess and integrate the evidence, as well as discussing strengths, limitations, and research gaps. Thus, the steps related to reaching level-of-evidence conclusions will not be used in the manuscripts.
