NIH HEW Data Accelerator
The Health and Extreme Weather (HEW) Data Commons manages, stores, and provides access to curated HEW data resources.
The HEW Data Commons aims to ensure all relevant HEW data assets are managed according to (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) FAIR principals. A key aspect is not to recreate what is already being done.
The HEW data commons component has several functions:
- Providing an open-access data repository for data sets that are relevant to extreme weather and health research and that is compliant with NIH desirable characteristics of a data repository.
- Maintaining and updating resources managed under the HEW Program and NIEHS.
- Offering a cataloging function to point researchers to relevant resources stored in other repositories, including data sets, software tools, training materials, common data elements (CDEs), and data standards—building on the Connecting Health Outcomes Research and Data Systems project (CHORDS) data catalog.
Through these functions, and through community engagement efforts, the HEW Data Commons also serves to promote both adoption of standards and the spread of data processing, analysis, and integration methods.
