The Office of Scientific Coordination, Planning and Evaluation (SCOPE) provides scientific and executive leadership, direction, and assistance to expansive programs that contribute to meeting the NIEHS mission and Strategic Plan. Because the environmental health sciences field is complex and broad in scope, SCOPE will help facilitate partnerships and collaborations across disciplines.

- Provides guidance and supervision of the institute’s strategic plan, engagement of stakeholders (i.e., Friends of NIEHS), and NIEHS-wide reporting requirements.
- Oversees public policy development and legislative activities, including the preparation of the annual congressional justification.
- Supports scientific planning, policy analysis, and program evaluation by developing criteria and proactively coordinating plans and activities to achieve scientific objectives.
- Reviews and provides an assessment of proposed regulations and regulatory documents.
- Enhances collaboration and resource sharing across the scientific, planning, policy, and evaluation functions of the institute in support of the NIEHS mission.
