Current NIEHS employees can receive employment verification at no charge to them using NIH’s The Employment and Income Verification System (TALX) system. Instructions are below.

W-2 Forms for Former Employees: Submit a Request for Duplicate, Corrected or Prior Year W-2, Wage and Tax Statement Form to the NIH Benefits and Payroll Liaison Branch.

Please note: The TALX system is intended for verifying employment for federal employees only. If you are seeking to verify employment for an intern, volunteer, or research trainee/fellow, you will need to contact the applicant’s immediate supervisor at NIEHS. Commission Corps should follow their usual verification of employment and income.

What is a "Verifier"?
A verifier is a bank, lender, landlord, or other person or organization that has a need to verify your employment information.
How does the verifier use this service? As an employee, how do I use this service?

  • Salary Key (If requested)

Each employee is responsible for authorizing the release of their employment and salary information. The credit and reference verifiers must receive an authorization form or salary from you to access your information.

Step 1: Authorize the verification by completing the verifier’s authorization form:

Step 2: Provide the verifier with the below Work Number® options:

How Does Employment Verification Work?

This automated service provides quick and easy access to employment information. No more need for faxing, mailing, or phone-calling that slows down the closing of loans or other employee business that requires a verification of employment. Now, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, employers can pick up the phone or log onto the web to verify this employment and salary information.

TALX The Work Number® does not replace current processes and only provides employment and income verification for civilian federal employees (not Fellows or Commission Corps). If you are a Fellow, please contact the appropriate supervisor or Program Office (administrative support) for verification. Commission Corps will follow their usual verification of employment and income.

Please note that TALX charges fees to verifiers. However because many lenders, such as banks and mortgage companies, that required HR verification are already subscribed to TALX, it is rare that such verifiers will pass on the charges to an HHS employee. If a verifier decides to pass on the charges to an employee, HHS has an agreement with TALX to reimburse the employee for the verification fees. NIH employees who have been charged for a verification can contact HR System Solutions for steps to get reimbursed.
