2014 interns
Two interns worked with NIEHS Bioethicist Dr. David Resnik this summer. They participated in a seminar on ethical, legal, and regulatory issues related to research involving human subjects, attended local institutional review board meetings, and assisted Dr. Resnik with a research project on institutional conflict of interest policies.
JL Ariansen is a first year student at North Carolina Central University School of Law and a community activist in the Triangle. JL trained as a bench scientist in Chemistry and Neurobiology and graduated from UNC with a MS in Neurobiology and BA in Psychology. JL brings to NIEHS in-depth experience conducting research on topics ranging from neurotransmitter release in animal models to HIV/AIDS medication adherence in human subjects. JL is dedicated to social justice and cultivating community and enjoys sci-fi novels and tinkering with old motorcycles and trucks.
Jaweria Jamal is currently a rising third year laws student at North Carolina Central University School of Law. Born and raised in Pakistan, Jaweria speaks three languages and has a passion for traveling and community service. She earned her bachelors in Communications from North Carolina State University, where she also led a Habitat for Humanity service trip to El Salvador. She has also been active in local organizations like Stop Hunger Now. She is considering immigration law and litigation or a career in bioethics.
