Part of the Demystifying a Girl’s First Period Study

Study Background

The study aims to investigate hormonal irregularities among two distinct groups: healthy adult women with regular menstrual cycles and women diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). By including women from both groups, we seek to identify signs or patterns that might indicate future reproductive disorders.

We are adding PCOS subsets of Affected Adult, at-risk girls, and Healthy controls because we think that many reproductive conditions that are diagnosed later in a woman’s life, including PCOS, originate in adolescence. We want to compare healthy girls and girls at increased risk for PCOS to women with regular cycles and to women with PCOS. This study will help us to better understand what healthy puberty looks like and how we can detect signs of hormone problems early on.
