Gary Johnson, Jr., M.P.A., is an Industrial Hygienist within the NIEHS Worker Training Program (WTP). The WTP provides health and safety training for thousands of workers who may be potentially be exposed to hazardous materials as they respond to natural disasters or hazardous materials spills.

Specific trainings are delivered by universities, unions, community colleges, and non-profit organizations who are funded through cooperative agreements with the NIEHS Worker Training Program. Gary will be involved in ensuring that the trainings meet OSHA, EPA, and other required standards criteria.

Gary earned his Master of Public Administration degree from Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky. He also earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health, with Industrial Hygiene, from Purdue University in West Lafayette in Indiana.

Prior to joining the NIH, Gary worked as an Industrial Hygienist with the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Borders Protection (CBP), Occupational Safety and Health Division (OSH). He was the National Medical Surveillance Coordinator and managed an agreement for CBP with Federal Occupational Health (FOH), as the Contracting Officer Representative (COR). Immediately before this, Gary was an Assistant Area Director/Supervising Industrial Hygienist for the Baltimore/Washington Area Office of the US Dept of Labor-OSHA. There he was responsible for the operations and efficiency of a group of Industrial Hygienists and Safety and Occupational Health Specialists.
