| Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting on Children’s Environmental Health In May 2019, NIEHS collaborated with the WHOCC at Chulabhorn Research Institute in Bangkok, SEARO and UNICEF EAPRO to organize the Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting on Children’s Environmental Health (CEH). At the meeting, participants discussed cross-cutting issues and commonalities among countries/regions; lessons learned, explored policy-relevant research collaborations and reviewed availability of educational tools to help translate research findings into tangible outputs. The meeting also helped set the agenda for the International Conference in Children’s Environmental Health the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centres for CEH. This regional meeting allowed networking of scientists, researchers, policy makers and practitioners in the Asia-Pacific region and increased awareness of the issue of the environmental threats to children’s health, with the ultimate goal of improving children’s environmental health, both regionally and globally. | Chronic Kidney Diseases in Agricultural Communities Workshop In June 2018, NIEHS partnered with the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) to host the Chronic Kidney Diseases in Agricultural Communities workshop. The workshop brought together nephrologists, pathologists, epidemiologists, toxicologists, and other researchers to address clinical, social, and scientific complexities of CKDu. |

| GEH Day 2018 NIEHS invited the public to its third annual Global Environmental Health Day - "Global Environmental Health Research Translation and Lessons Learned". Speakers shared experiences and insights about research translation, conducting research in the field, and the role of earth observations in environmental health. There were two panel presentations, a poster session and a roundtable discussion. |

| International Congress on Pediatric Pulmonology NIEHS sponsored a session on Climate, Environment and Health (CEH) at the 18th International Congress on Pediatric Pulmonology, and funded travel for two experts to attend the conference: Peter Sly, M.D., from the University of Queensland, and Aneesa Vanker, M.D., from the University of Cape Town. This annual event, which is attended by physicians from around the world, has rarely emphasized the role of the environment in children’s health. The CEH session was well received; several participants asked for additional information. |

| South Asian Children’s Environmental Health Regional Workshop Seeking to form a stronger network of researchers interested in CEH in the Asia-Pacific region, NIEHS organized the South Asian Children’s Environmental Health Workshop, held November 2017, in New Delhi, India. The event brought together researchers who study children’s unique vulnerabilities to environmental exposures, and who are working on a range of international, regional, and local initiatives. The workshop featured case studies and situation reports on Tajikistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Vietnam, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. By bringing together researchers from diverse places, the workshop aimed to establish a coordinated approach to address priority research areas and needs related to CEH. Discussion topics included similarities and differences in CEH statistics and research approaches in South Asia, regional interests, and the needs of participants in the Network of WHO Collaborating Centres for Children’s Environmental Health. | Expert Consultation on Measuring Health Gains from Sustainable Development NIEHS partnered with WHO to convene an expert consultation on potential health indicators for sustainable development goals in non-health sectors in Geneva, Switzerland on May 17-18, 2012. The reports and recommendations produced by this meeting were presented by WHO at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Brazil in June 2012. |

| Health Burden of Indoor Air Pollution on Women and Children in Developing Countries In May 2011, NIEHS partnered with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the Fogarty International Center (FIC) to convene an international workshop on the “Health Burden of Indoor Air Pollution on Women and Children in Developing Countries.” Nine workgroups deliberated on research needs in specific focus areas, including cancer, cardiovascular outcomes, infection, respiratory disease, exposure assessment and biomarkers, pregnancy and neonatal outcomes, burns and eye injuries, and behavioral and empowerment issues. | Primary Prevention: Avoiding Non-Communicable Diseases by Reducing Early Life Exposure A side event to the Prenatal Programming and Toxicology III Workshop in Paris, France, in July 2012 brought together scientific experts on the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) with leaders of the global health organizations devoted to reducing the burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The objective: explore ways to incorporate prenatal and early life preventive measures to reduce environmental contributions to NCDs. |
