  • Postbaccalaureate training in the NIH Intramural Research Program provides recent college graduates who are planning to apply to graduate or professional (medical/dental/pharmacy/nursing/veterinary, etc.) school an opportunity to spend one or two years performing full-time research at the NIH. Postbac IRTAs work side-by-side with some of the leading scientists in the world, in an environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research.   • Predoctoral training in the NIH Intramural Research Program gives graduate students the opportunity to conduct all or part of their dissertation research in the resource-rich NIH environment. Students come to NIEHS through individual agreements negotiated between their university mentor and an investigator at NIH. In all cases, degrees are granted by the university partner.   • Postdoctoral training in the NIH Intramural Research Program (IRP) provides the opportunity for recent doctoral degree recipients to enhance their research skills in the resource-rich NIH environment. Trainees explore areas such as bioinformatics, epidemiology, immunology, cell and molecular biology, neuroscience, developmental biology, structural biology, signal transduction and clinical research.
