Candidates interested in a STrIDE fellowship should contact NIEHS Principal Investigators directly to inquire about available research experiences within their research group. The STrIDE Program is open on a rolling basis though there are a limited number of fellowships available. Here is a list of the Laboratories and Branches within the NIEHS Intramural Research Program. The potential candidates should introduce themselves, share a CV/resume, and ask if the Principal Investigators will consider them for the STrIDE Program. There are helpful resources and tips outlining the process of finding an NIH mentor on the NIH Training & Education webpage. Once the applicants establish a potential Principal Investigator match, the applicants should provide the Principal Investigator the following documents:

  • Cover letter highlighting interest in NIEHS research.
  • Resume/CV highlighting academic and/or professional record.
  • Diversity Statement from the prospective candidate (500-word limit).
    • The candidate should describe their demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as address how they are qualified and would benefit from participating as a STrIDE Scholar at NIEHS. The candidate should reference the Notice of NIH’s Interest in Diversity.

NIEHS Principal Investigators are responsible for submitting the above materials to the STrIDE committee. Please note that postbaccalaureate and predoctoral candidates will also need to submit an application through the NIH Application Center. Please reach out to the Scientific Director’s Traineeship for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Committee if you have general questions about the STrIDE Program.
