The Climate Change and Human Health Glossary, developed and managed by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), is an online, searchable, curated database of nearly 300 terms relevant to the science of climate change and its effects on human health. The glossary is part of NIEHS’ continued efforts to improve understanding of the global health effects of climate change and to encourage information sharing among researchers and others who work at the intersection of climate change and health. Glossary features include:
- Category filter
- Contextual relevance
- Definitions
- Key word search tool
- Related terms
The tool aims to help standardize language, enable data harmonization, facilitate communication, and expand knowledge about climate change and health among scientists, health care providers, policymakers, advocates, educators, and others.
The glossary was created as a companion to the NIEHS Climate Change and Human Health Literature Portal to further advance the communication and understanding of the impacts of climate change on human health.
The glossary is free to use and available online and in a mobile-friendly format. Updates will occur semi-annually to reflect the dynamic, multidisciplinary nature of research and policy on the topics of climate change and human health. Feedback or suggestions are welcome through the NIEHS website.
