The Exposome

January 6, 2014

Experts: Gary Miller, Ph.D., Yomi Noibi, Ph.D.

All of the things we’re exposed to, taken together, make up what’s called the “exposome.” In this podcast, we learn how studying the exposome helps scientists take a holistic look at how environmental exposures can keep us healthy—or make us sick.

Gary Miller, Ph.D.

Gary Miller, Ph.D., is Professor and Associate Dean for Research in the department of environmental health at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. He directs the HERCULES Center, which is funded by NIEHS and is the first exposome-based center grant awarded in the United States. He also directs the Emory Parkinson’s Disease Collaborative Environmental Health Research Center and Emory’s NIEHS-funded Toxicology Training Grant. His research focuses on the role of environmental and genetic factors involved in neurological disease, with an emphasis on regulation of monoamines.

Yomi Noibi, Ph.D.

Yomi Noibi, Ph.D., is Executive Director of Environmental Community Action, Inc. (ECO-Action). ECO-Action's mission is to help communities organize to confront environmental health threats, and to strengthen and facilitate participation of communities in preventing and resolving such threats. In particular, the organization focuses assistance on vulnerable communities, most often rural residents, people with limited formal education, those with few resources, women, and people of color. ECO-Action is a community partner to the NIEHS-funded HERCULES Center at Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
