NIEHS-funded researchers and community partners are well-represented among members of the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council, which is supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Members will provide their expertise and insights to advance the concerns of historically marginalized communities in climate and environmental policy. NIEHS-funded members include:
- Peggy Shepherd, co-founder and executive director of WE ACT for Environmental Justice, a community partner of the NIEHS Center for Environmental Health in Northern Manhattan at Columbia University.
- Robert Bullard, Ph.D., researcher at Texas Southern University, and principal investigator of the Worker Training Program-funded Historically Black Colleges and Universities Consortium in partnership with the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice.
- Rachel Morello-Frosch, Ph.D., researcher at the University of California, Berkeley.
- Juan Parras, founder and executive director of the Texas Environmental Justice Advocacy Services, a community partner of the Texas A&M University and Baylor College of Medicine.
- Viola Waghiyi, Environmental Health and Justice Program Director of the Alaska Community Action on Toxics, a community organization leading an NIEHS-funded research project.
- Beverly Wright, Ph.D., founder and executive director of the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, and principal investigator of the Worker Training Program-funded Historically Black Colleges and Universities Consortium, in partnership with Texas Southern University.
