Patrick Mastin received his B.S. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Centre College and his Ph.D. in pathology from Duke University as part of the Duke Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program. He was a senior research biologist and section chief at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health before coming to the NIEHS Division of Extramural Research and Training (DERT) as a scientific review officer in 1998. He served as program officer for the respiratory, cardiovascular, and immunology portfolio and as chief of the Cellular, Organ, and Systems Pathobiology Branch. He is currently deputy director of DERT.
