Superfund Research Program
November 17 & 18, 2010
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
111 T.W. Alexander Drive
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
The workshop had two specific objectives: 1) discuss an emerging area in environmental health sciences concerning interactions between gut-associated microbes (i.e., gut microbiota, intestinal microbiome) and environmental contaminants and the untoward consequences of these interactions on human health; 2) enhance communication between existing Superfund programs and between the SRP and various federal agencies and divisions including but not limited to NIEHS, EPA, ATSDR, and NIOSH. Additionally, this conference brought together biomedical scientists focused on human health effects of environmental chemicals and microbiologists with expertise in the intestinal microbiome.
