Summary
This study examined the ART adherence of adolecents with HIV in southern Uganda when applying the multi-component economic empowerment intervention, Suubi + Adherence. The authors tracked HIV viral load as an indicator of ART adherence in the control group and the group that received ecomonic education. The authors found that the viral load surpression increased in patients who received the economic empowerment intervention, as well as the individuals self reported savings amount increasing.

Methods Used:

  • The authors — 1) calculated the difference in savings amount between the baseline standard of care with provided bulstered standard of care in adolecents with HIV, participants who received bulstered care were provided with finanical education regarding ART; 2) studied the amount of HIV viral load available in the patients control arm versus the arm that received intervention; and 3) used viral load suppression to track adherence to ART.
