Summary
This research study seeks to explore and understand the nonclinical factors that home health nurses evaluate and how they make decisions based on social, economic, and environmental factors. The authors conducted semi-structured interviews with 20 visiting nurses. Three nonclinical factor themes emerged: social support, home environment and neighborhood, and finances and insurance barriers. Furher research and guidance is needed to address the social determinants of health across the care continuum.
