Description of cohort Cohort has enrolled over 1,000 Native Americans (Mohawk tribe) of all ages.
Location of cohort Northern New York, Southern Ontario and Quebec, Canada
Chemicals/Exposures studied Polychlorinated biphenyls, chlorinated pesticides, lead, methyl mercury
Health or social effects studied Cognitive problems, diabetes, thyroid and cardiovascular diseases, serum lipids, reproductive functions

Key Findings Mohawk tribe members are exposed to PCBs from contaminated fish and breathing contaminated air, making them at excess risk of cognitive deficits, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, thyroid disease and endocrine disorders.
