Network of WHO Collaborating Centres for Children’s Environmental Health
The Institute for Health and the Environment at the University at Albany strives to promote interdisciplinary research in a range of areas related to health and the environment. The institute supports many projects to better understand how the environment can affect children’s health, with a focus on environmental exposures that reduce cognitive function and the adverse effects of indoor and outdoor air pollution.
As a hub in an international network for children's environmental health, the Institute for Health and the Environment is:
- Providing WHO with technical support for the development of evidence-based policies appropriate to different local and international needs.
- Supporting global training in environmental health.
- Investigating human disease caused by exposure to environmental chemical pollutants, electromagnetic fields, and ionizing radiation.
- Collecting, collating, and disseminating information, research, and training focused on chemical safety, environmental health and hazards, and non-communicable diseases.
