Institute for Health and the Environment, University at Albany

Network of WHO Collaborating Centres for Children’s Environmental Health

The Institute for Health and the Environment at the University at Albany strives to promote interdisciplinary research in a range of areas related to health and the environment. The institute supports many projects to better understand how the environment can affect children’s health, with a focus on environmental exposures that reduce cognitive function and the adverse effects of indoor and outdoor air pollution.

As a hub in an international network for children's environmental health, the Institute for Health and the Environment is:

  • Providing WHO with technical support for the development of evidence-based policies appropriate to different local and international needs.
  • Supporting global training in environmental health.
  • Investigating human disease caused by exposure to environmental chemical pollutants, electromagnetic fields, and ionizing radiation.
  • Collecting, collating, and disseminating information, research, and training focused on chemical safety, environmental health and hazards, and non-communicable diseases.
