NIEHS Senior Advisor John Balbus, M.D., M.P.H, recently spoke at a Live session during the 2019 APHA Annual Meeting. The session, called “Harnessing Climate Change and Health Assessments to Achieve Health Equity” featured a number of distinguished speakers and is available to watch for APHA members. Mark Magaña of GreenLatinos served as the session moderator. Presentations included ‘From threat to opportunity: tracking progress on health and climate change’ presented by Nick Watts, M.B.B.S., M.A., from the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change; ‘Harnessing Climate Change and Health Assessments to Achieve Health Equity: 2018 Lancet Countdown Brief for the United States’ by Renee Salas, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital; ‘Health applications from the Fourth National Climate Assessment’ by John Balbus, M.D., M.P.H., National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD and ‘Connecting climate change and health assessments to policy: Focus on low and middle income countries (LMICs)’ was presented virtually by Diarmid Campbell-Lendrum, B.A., D.Phil, from the World Health Organization in Geneva.
