The 2015 HAMMER/NTC Training Event in conjunction with the NIEHS Worker Trainers’ Exchange, held March 3-5, 2015 in Richland, Washington, was a meeting for trainers to network and share ideas about how to create more effective and empowering training, improved training skills, and exchanged ideas, best practices, and techniques. Over 150 trainers and training staff from across the country participated in this unique exchange.
This is the second time that the NIEHS Worker Training Program, in conjunction with NTC and HAMMER, conducted a trainers exchange specifically for health and safety trainers within the DOE complex. The first was in Knoxville, TN in 2012.
A trainers' exchange is designed for trainers to share best practices and new techniques through a series of workshops conducted by the trainers themselves. The goals are to meet and share ideas about how to create more effective and empowering training, improve training skills, and exchange best practices and techniques. The NIEHS WTP has conducted a series of similar exchanges with documented success in achieving these goals.
The NIEHS WTP in partnership with the DOE funds eight consortia to provide safety and health training to the people who make up the workforce engaged in environmental restoration activities at DOE nuclear weapons sites. Over 35,000 workers are trained annually under this program.
