2010 Fall Meeting

Purpose and Scope of the Workshop

The Worker Education and Training Program's (WETP) Fall 2010 awardee meeting and workshop was held October 25-26, 2010 on the NIEHS Main Campus, in Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC.

This workshop reviewed the current issues relating to the various components of the newly awarded cooperative agreements. Issues relating to basic hazmat training and how the programs have grown and developed since their inception; hazmat and disaster response update to discuss lessons learned from the Gulf oil spill and how they relate to what we've learned about training from previous disasters; environmental remediation and the green jobs issues--what do we really expect from these Stimulus Programs; environmental training and Environmental Justice--expectancies and current issues; and the direction of the DOE program given the series of collaboration training meetings that have been held around the complex.

Lessons Learned from Working with the Department of Energy (DOE)
NIEHS and DOE have spent the last few years engaging with DOE's Office of Health, Safety and Security and the sites. One panelist shared various themes which have been revealed through these meetings and the other discussed how DOE workers could be instrumental responders in a dirty bomb attack.

It's All About Metrics
This presentation introduced a new Partnerships for Environmental Public Health (PEPH) Evaluation Metrics Manual that may be valuable for your program's evaluation. The manual provides examples of logic models, approaches, and tangible metrics that PEPH grantees and program staff can use for both planning and evaluation.
