This environmental health workshop was held on Sunday, September 16, 2018, in conjunction with the H3Africa consortium and the African Society of Human Genetics meetings (September 17 – 21) in Kigali, Rwanda. This one-day workshop highlighted innovative research occurring on the African continent related to environmental health and the interplay between the environment and the human genome. The agenda featured stories of success, addressed the unique challenges involved in this work, and facilitated collaborative opportunities. The workshop informed participants about environmental risk factors that can be incorporated into current or future studies and research design considerations for highlighted exposure categories (e.g., electronic waste, air pollution, mold, metals, pesticides, biomarkers of chemical exposures, etc.). The workshop was open to researchers outside of the H3Africa consortium with expertise or interests in environmental health in Africa.
