October 29, 2014 • National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, NC
Purpose
NIEHS and the environmental health sciences community have made great strides in identifying and understanding the role of the environment in health and disease.
The NIEHS Strategic Plan attempts to build on these efforts in the field of inflammation by:
- (Goal 1) Understanding fundamental shared mechanisms involved in the development of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases;
- (Goal 2) Defining individual susceptibilities for complex inflammatory diseases resulting from environmental factors;
- (Goal 4) Identifying how combined exposures affect inflammatory disease pathogenesis;
- (Goal 7) Encouraging collaboration across NIEHS divisions and with other organizations;
- (Goal 8) Increasing scientific literacy and awareness of environmental exposures that lead to inflammation-related health consequences
In order to achieve these goals, NIEHS launched the Inflammation Faculty Seminar and Webcast Series to provide a forum to review and highlight ongoing and planned research activities on inflammation, with a particular focus on the role of the environment in these processes.
