NIEHS, part of NIH, is recruiting for a Senior Investigator to serve as the new Chief of the Epigenetics & Stem Cell Biology Laboratory (ESCBL) in the Division of Intramural Research in Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC. RTP is located near Duke University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina.
NIEHS is a premier research institute where intramural investigators study a wide range of important biologic questions related to effects of the environment on human health. ESCBL is composed of eight independent research groups that study fundamental mechanisms by which genomic and epigenomic mechanisms influence chromatin architecture, transcription, RNA biology, and gene expression in normal, cancer and embryonic stem cells to provide novel insights into biological processes and environmental diseases. ESCBL also contains two core facilities that provide DNA sequencing and mass spectrometry support to all NIEHS.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have an outstanding academic record of achievement, leadership capabilities, and broad interests in transcriptional regulation, epigenetics, chromatin architecture, RNA biology, and stem cell biology. In addition to directing his/her own independent research program, the Chief will be responsible for leading ESCBL and providing vision and directions as research in transcriptional regulation and environmental health science continue to evolve. Principal investigators in the NIH intramural program have no formal teaching duties, are funded internally with "hard money" support, and work with a great deal of protected time. They engage directly in high risk/high reward research with postdoctoral fellows, students, and support staff, and collaborate with colleagues to solve important scientific problems. Applicants should have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field and a demonstrated interest in genomic and epigenomic regulation of gene transcription, chromatin architecture, and/or molecular basis of self-renewal and pluripotency in embryonic stem and cancer cells.
Salary/Benefits: The successful candidate for this position will be eligible for a tenured appointment and will receive a salary commensurate with experience and accomplishments. The successful candidate will receive full Federal benefits, including leave, health and life insurance, retirement, and savings plan (401K equivalent).
