Superfund Research Program
Neha Ray is a senior in the Liberal Arts Academy at Henry Clay High School in Lexington, KY. She spent her summer conducting research at the University of Kentucky in Dr. Sylvia Daunert's lab developing a hydroxylated polychlorinated biphenyl (OH-PCB) detection system using aequorin, a bioluminescent protein, on the surface of bacterial spores.
Neha has always had an interest in the sciences, and her summer research experience has given her the opportunity to get hands- on experience working in a lab, and learn more about molecular biochemistry. This experience has helped her appreciate the process of developing a research project and the various steps involved.
This is the second summer that Neha has researched in Dr. Daunert's lab. She would like to pursue future research positions throughout college, and she plans to major in biochemistry.
