Sally Eckert-Tilotta has been a scientific review officer at NIEHS since 2002. Her duties involve recruiting and managing review committees for evaluating proposals submitted to NIEHS. She received her B.S. in chemistry from Eastern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, with a concentration on robotic applications, from Utah State University. Eckert-Tilotta held a post-doctoral appointment at Baylor University where she worked on biosensors for the detection of calcium in the bloodstream.
Following her post-doctoral work at Baylor, she moved to the University of North Dakota (UND) where she conducted research on the use of supercritical fluid extraction for the quantification of contaminants in environmental matrices at the Energy and Environmental Research Center, and established and managed a water quality laboratory in the Geology Department. She was selected for a position in the Office of Research and Program Development at UND and ultimately became its acting director.
