Congressional Appropriation

Superfund Research Program

A significant change occurred in 2000 when Congress chose to provide Program funds directly to NIEHS. Previously, the SRP received its funds as passthrough dollars from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). From 2000-2005, funding for the SRP was through the House Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development and Independent Agencies Appropriation Subcommittee. In 2005, both the House and Senate restructured their appropriation subcommittees. In this reorganization, the SRP was assigned to the Appropriation Subcommittees on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies.

As part of the budget process, NIEHS annually submits a Congressional Justification to be included in the President's budget. The Superfund Congressional Justification (full document)(336KB) for Fiscal Year 2014 is available for viewing.

Subsequent to the release of the President's budget, NIEHS submits its Congressional Testimony to the appropriate appropriation subcommittee. The testimony updates the Congress on the status of the SRP and highlights a few recent accomplishments.
