Short-, medium- and long-term outcome in patients with Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathy

Study Design:

Natural History (Survival and Clinical Course) and Functional Outcome Retrospective, Cross-sectional and Prospective Study


Types & Number of IIM Studied:

Polymyositis, Dermatomyositis, Overlap myositis, Juvenile dermatomyositis, cancer-associated myositis (N = 105)


Entry Criteria:

Probable or definite Bohan and Peter criteria for idiopathic inflammatory myopathy


IMACS Core Set Measures Included:

Physician and Patient Global Activity Assessment, Manual Muscle Testing, Childhood Myositis Assessment Scale, Health Assessment Questionnaire, Enzymes, Myositis Disease Activity Assessment Tool; Myositis Damage Index, Health Related Quality of Life by SF-36 and Child Health Questionnaire


Other Measures Included:

MHC-typing, Myositis specific autoantibodies, Extra-muscular involvement, Work status, Development of other illnesses, Development of therapy- and disease-related complications


Primary Outcome:

Death, Relapses; IMACS Definitions of Improvement


Study Duration:

Retrospective and Cross-sectional Study: Completed (2003) Prospective Study: Ongoing and Open (2003-2008)
