Joseph Roycroft, Ph.D., is a toxicologist and serves as a project officer in the administration and monitoring of contracts for NTP toxicology and carcinogenicity studies. Roycroft serves as a resource for NTP staff and management on study design and cost, as a technical expert for evaluation of technical and business contract proposals, as well as the central resource of expertise on comprehensive health and safety-related matters for NTP contract activities.
As a toxicologist, Roycroft is involved in the design, conduct, interpretation, and reporting of NTP research and testing activities that investigate the toxicology, carcinogenicity and mode of action of environmental substances in rodent models. These data serve as a resource to state and federal regulatory agencies for predicting potential health effects in humans. His primary research interest is the effect of inhaled chemicals on the respiratory tract. Over the past 25 years, he has served as the primary staff scientist and/or project officer for NTP inhalation toxicity and carcinogenicity studies.
Roycroft received a B.A. in botany from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a B.S. in zoology from North Carolina State University and a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was an NIH postdoctoral fellow in toxicology at Duke University, Duke University Medical Center, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology.
