Cannon, Ph.D. is a staff scientist working for the National Center for Toxicogenomics (NCT) within the basic research Cancer Biology Group. He received his B.S. degree from Davidson College and his Ph.D from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is presently adjunct faculty at both North Carolina State University Genetics Department in Raleigh, NC and The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in the Curriculum of Toxicology. Although he functions as a vital component in the leadership and direction of our Cancer Biology Group, his specific research interests are centered on the induced response of the v-Ha-ras transgene in Tg.AC mice. Since this response is both a function of the oncogenic ras gene product and its chromosomal position, he has investigated its integration site and discovered a novel ABC transporter gene that appears to have significant clinical importance. Ongoing studies in to the function of this gene and its relationship to the ras transgene induction are ongoing. |
