Deepa Rao, B.V.Sc., Ph.D., D.A.B.T., D.A.C.V.P., is a board certified toxicologist and board certified pathologist working with David Malarkey, Ph.D., in the NTP Pathology Group.

 

Research Interests:

  • Neurotoxicology and neuropathology of environmental toxicants

 

Biography:

Dr. Rao received her veterinary degree from Mysore Veterinary College in 1992, a Master’s degree from Oklahoma State University in Veterinary Physiological Sciences in 1996, and her doctorate from the University of Oklahoma – Health Sciences Center in 2000. Her doctorate work focused on the effects and mechanisms of toxicity resulting from combined exposures to noise and chemicals. She continued research as a postdoctoral fellow at CIIT Centers for Health Research working on the toxic effects of inhaled manganese to the brain. Dr. Rao then joined Covance Laboratories in Madison, WI as a Study Director overseeing preclinical toxicity studies for drugs, chemicals and biologics. Following completion of the ABT certification in 2005, Dr. Rao returned to veterinary school in Madison, WI to pursue residency training in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology. She joined NIEHS in 2008 as a Research Fellow, and completed board certification in Veterinary Pathology in 2011.
