11th Report on Carcinogens

The NTP Report on Carcinogens (RoC) Center (http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/?objectid=72016262-BDB7-CEBA-FA60E922B18C2540) — headed by Ruth Lunn, Dr.P.H. (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/about/od/ontp/lunn/index.cfm) — coordinates one of the NTP’s hazard evaluation activities. The RoC Center’s scientific staff, with assistance from the RoC support contract, prepares the Report on Carcinogens, a congressionally mandated report that identifies substances that are known or reasonably anticipated human carcinogens.

The RoC Center staff is responsible for:

  • Evaluating nominations (from the public and private sectors) and recommending substances to undergo scientific review for the RoC
  • Preparing scientific review documents on candidate substances that contain exposure, regulatory and detailed carcinogenicity information and are peer-reviewed in a public forum
  • Conducting scientific review meetings
  • Preparing the draft RoC for submission to the Secretary of Health and Human Resources
  • Serving as a resource to the scientific community and the public for information on environmental exposures and cancer risk
