Scott E. Merkle, M.S.
Audience: K-12, undergraduates, graduate students, and community organizations
With over 30 years of managerial experience in occupational hygiene, Mr Merkle is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and has maintained his certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene since 1981.
Since 1988, he has held the position of Chief, Health and Safety Branch at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, National Institutes of Health in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. In that capacity he manages NIEHS employee programs for industrial hygiene, radiological health, safety, environmental protection, sustainability, occupational health, worker's compensation and hazardous waste management.
Previously, he held industrial hygiene positions with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration in Washington, DC. He has a M.S. degree in industrial hygiene from the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public Health and a B.S. degree from the Pennsylvania State University.
