Deepa Rao, B.V.Sc., M.S., Ph.D.

Audience: Elementary and Middle School

Dr. Rao is a trained veterinarian, toxicologist, and pathologist. She works for the National Toxicology Program as a scientist studying the toxic effects of chemicals that are relevant to public health. Her interests are geared towards understanding effects of environmental chemicals on the nervous system.

Dr. Rao earned her PhD at the University of Oklahoma and her BVSc (veterinarian degree) in India.

For her doctorate work, she focused on the effects of chemicals and noise on hearing loss relevant in occupational exposures. As an outreach speaker, Dr. Rao is passionate about nurturing scientific interest in young minds.
